The expanded acronym formed from the word Antiformant references Allen Strange's excellent 1974 manual for the Buchla Music Easel; 'Programming and Meta-Programming in the Electro-Organism', the Sixth Circuit of the Eight-circuit model of consciousness hypothesised by Timothy Leary in 1977, and the 1968 book by John C. Lilly 'Programming and Metaprogramming in the Human Biocomputer'.
